Cover Letter for Job Application

Two Types of Cover Letters: Which One Should You Use?

One of the most important parts of a job application that most people overlook is the cover letter. A cover letter is a document you attach in front of your resume, when you submit it to any company. You must never submit a resume without a cover letter attached to it because it is this letter of introduction which will get your prospective employer to read it.

Basically, there are two kinds of cover letters. Firstly, there is the letter you submit when you have the intention of applying for a specific position which the company currently has openings for. You should write this letter in such a way that they will want to read your resume instead of the resume of the many people vying for the exact same position you are.

The second letter is one which you submit to a company you want to work for, but has no advertised openings at the moment. This letter is also called the letter of inquiry because it signifies to the company that you are interested in a position and that you are willing to consider whatever they have available for you, based on what you have written in your resume.

Make a Good Impression by Writing Your Cover Letter the Right Way

Here are some tips on how to write a good cover letter. The first thing you should do is identify the reason for your sending your resume. Are you applying for a specific position or are you sending open to the jobs they have available for you? Likewise, you should mention how and why you came about applying for the company.

Remember that you should sell yourself well in your cover letter. Make your reader want to read your resume by writing with correct grammar and by choosing to tell only the most important information you want your reader to know. Also, use examples to highlight your best qualities that make you fit for the position or company you are applying for.

If you were asked to give a list of information by a job advertisement, but you were not able to include it in your resume your cover letter would be the best place to list these down. Remember that this letter will be the first thing your prospective employer sees when reading your job application. Don’t let it be the last.
